Technical Hub Coordinator (Deputy Team Leader) – Facility of the Regional Teachers Initiative for Africa

About the Role
The Technical Hub Coordinator will lead the Africa Hub of the RTIA-Facility, based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The role involves steering policy dialogue on teacher-related issues, managing technical teams, building partnerships, and ensuring that the Facility effectively supports education reform and teacher professional development across Africa. The Coordinator will also serve as the Deputy Team Leader, representing the Facility and acting on behalf of the Team Leader when required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the Facility across Africa and lead high-level engagement with partners including the AU, UNESCO-IICBA, ADEA, AFTRA, and Ministries of Education.
  • Oversee and guide the Addis Ababa Technical Hub team, including Technical Leads and Key Experts, ensuring quality, timely, and relevant technical assistance.
  • Coordinate policy dialogue, technical cooperation, and knowledge-sharing initiatives across African education systems.
  • Supervise the Knowledge Management and Brokering (KMB) team to ensure effective learning and dissemination of evidence-based practices.
  • Drive internal coordination, quality assurance, reporting, and alignment of all Hub activities with EU standards and Facility objectives.
  • Promote visibility through strategic communication and advocacy events, ensuring EU branding and Facility messaging are well represented.

Required Qualifications and Skills

  • Master’s degree in Education, Education Policy, International Development, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of teacher policy, teacher development systems, and education reforms in Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • At least 15 years of progressive experience in education programs, with a strong record in teacher capacity-building and policy support.
  • Proven leadership in managing multi-country or multi-partner education programs.
  • Experience engaging with senior officials in African and regional education bodies.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
  • Fluency in English and French; Portuguese or African languages are an asset.
  • Familiarity with EU or multilateral donor-funded project rules and standards.

Contract Details

  • Duration: 12 months (renewable up to 5 years)
  • Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Type: Expatriate EF contract with a competitive salary and expatriation package
