The role focuses on supporting Ethiopia’s engagement in international carbon markets under Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The position provides policy advice, technical guidance and coordination support to national stakeholders to strengthen institutional readiness, climate finance integration and carbon market cooperation. Contract duration runs until December 31, 2028.
Responsibilities:
Provide policy and technical advisory services on Article 6 rules and carbon market mechanisms.
Design and steer support measures aligned with national climate priorities.
Lead analytical and research work related to climate finance and carbon markets.
Coordinate with ministries, private sector and civil society partners to ensure smooth project implementation.
Contribute to establishing a national carbon market network and regional knowledge-sharing mechanisms.
Support capacity-building programs including trainings and workshops.
Oversee consultants, review deliverables and support grant or contract management.
Contribute to monitoring, reporting, communication and internal knowledge exchange.
Ensure strong coordination with other GIZ programs and development partners.
Requirements:
Advanced degree in climate policy, environmental economics, international relations, environmental science or a related field.
Minimum 7 years of professional experience in carbon markets, climate finance or Article 6 implementation.
Experience advising government institutions on NDCs, climate policy and market mechanisms.
Strong understanding of emission reduction accounting, authorization processes and carbon market governance.
Proven experience managing technical projects, consultants and research outputs.
Knowledge of climate finance tools and private-sector engagement.
Strong stakeholder management and networking skills.
Experience delivering capacity-building programs at national or international levels.
Excellent communication, negotiation and analytical skills.
Fluency in English and Amharic.
