Job Description
The Senior Manager – Business Development will provide strategic leadership for resource mobilization and partnership development for Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia.
The role focuses on positioning the organization for long-term growth by identifying new funding opportunities and building strategic partnerships with key stakeholders.
The Senior Manager will report directly to the Director of Program Strategy and Growth and will play a central role in strengthening Amref Ethiopia’s competitiveness for donor-funded programs.
The position involves leading the development of a strategic business development plan aligned with the organization’s country and corporate strategies.
The successful candidate will maintain a strong funding pipeline by identifying opportunities and developing pre-positioning strategies for upcoming funding calls.
The role requires conducting market intelligence analysis to identify donor priorities, funding trends, and emerging development opportunities.
The Senior Manager will advise the leadership team on strategic growth opportunities and help guide organizational decision-making on new funding initiatives.
The position also supports diversification of funding sources, including engagement with private sector partners, innovative financing mechanisms, and domestic resource mobilization initiatives.
Another key responsibility is leading donor intelligence activities and analyzing the competitive landscape to improve Amref’s chances of securing major funding opportunities.
The role requires developing and implementing capture strategies for priority funding opportunities and building strong partnerships with potential consortium members.
The Senior Manager will oversee the entire proposal development process, ensuring high-quality proposals that meet donor requirements and organizational standards.
The position involves facilitating proposal design workshops and coordinating with technical, finance, monitoring and evaluation, and communications teams.
The successful candidate will ensure strong alignment between program design, technical proposals, and financial planning.
The role also includes building and managing strategic partnerships with governments, development partners, NGOs, private sector actors, and international organizations.
The Senior Manager will represent Amref Ethiopia in donor consultations, technical meetings, and sector coordination forums.
Strengthening Amref’s external visibility through strategic communication materials and partnership engagement strategies will also be part of the role.
Internally, the position will contribute to strengthening business development systems, processes, and standard operating procedures.
The Senior Manager will mentor and support business development staff and build capacity within technical teams to strengthen proposal development skills.
Collaboration with regional and headquarters teams will ensure alignment with global fundraising strategies and best practices.
The role plays a vital part in ensuring Amref Ethiopia meets its resource mobilization targets and expands its impact in the health sector.
Educational Qualification
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline.
Acceptable fields of study include Business Administration (MBA), Economics, Development Finance, Public Health with specialization in Health Economics or Health Financing, International Development, or related fields.
Additional professional training or certification in strategic management, fundraising, proposal development, grant management, project management, or partnership development will be considered an advantage.
Work Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in business development, resource mobilization, or grant management within the development sector.
Candidates must demonstrate a proven track record of securing multi-year and multi-million-dollar grants from institutional donors, foundations, or private sector partners.
Applicants should have experience leading complex proposal development processes involving multiple partners.
At least three years of supervisory or team management experience is required.
Strong experience in donor engagement, partnership development, and negotiation is essential.
