Position Overview:
The Senior Health Officer will manage and coordinate the “Scaling the Last Mile Delivery of Immunization Services” project. This includes introducing and scaling the use of Indigo backpacks to enhance immunization coverage and access to essential health services. The role involves regional planning, monitoring, and collaboration with Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs), partners, and government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support implementation of the Gates Foundation-funded Indigo Backpack project in collaboration with Ministry of Health and RHBs
- Provide technical assistance for planning, deployment, and monitoring of Indigo devices
- Strengthen immunization supply chain performance, monitor vaccine stock and cold chain equipment
- Support immunization sessions using Indigo backpack devices
- Develop and submit IRC and donor reports; document lessons learned
- Represent IRC in regional health bureau meetings, technical working groups, and sector coordination
- Assist in organizing workshops, training sessions, and awareness campaigns
- Support budget monitoring, grant management, and procurement schedules
- Collaborate with internal teams including Health & Nutrition, MEAL, Finance, HR, Supply Chain
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Medicine, Public Health, Nursing, or BA in Supply Chain Management (Master’s preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in health services, vaccine/cold chain management, or medical device introduction
- Experience in conflict-affected or hard-to-reach settings preferred
- Knowledge of national immunization supply chain policies and strategies
- Fluency in English and regional languages (Afaan Oromo, Tigrigna, Afar, Amharic)
