Organizational Setting and Reporting
The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) aims to deliver ideas and actions for an empowered and transformed Africa guided by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Agenda 2063. Its mission is centered on five strategic directions: advancing ECA’s role as a premier knowledge institution, promoting economic diversification and job creation, developing innovative financing models, addressing regional and transboundary challenges, and strengthening Africa’s global position. This role is located in the Publications and Conference Management Section, reporting to the Chief of Production Services.
Responsibilities
The Publishing Officer will lead the implementation of ECA’s publishing and information programs. Key duties include:
• Developing and managing publishing strategies, coordinating production, and monitoring progress.
• Analyzing trends in publishing, design, and digital distribution, and advising management on actions.
• Promoting dissemination of UN publications across print, digital, and multimedia formats.
• Producing a range of publishing products including reports, infographics, and interactive materials.
• Preparing and editing publication content and coordinating design, printing, and distribution.
• Building and maintaining relationships with authors, editors, designers, and vendors.
• Supervising junior staff and guiding them on publishing workflows and production tasks.
• Using data analytics and visualization to support publishing decisions and reporting.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in publishing, print and media technology, multimedia design, communication, or a related field. A first-level degree with qualifying experience may be accepted. Training in data or business analytics is an advantage.
Experience
At least five years of progressively responsible experience in visual communications, publishing, or multimedia production is required.
Experience in managing digital publishing, developing interactive materials, and multimedia storytelling is desirable.
Experience in data analytics is an asset.
Languages
English is required. French is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation may include a substantive assessment and a competency-based interview.
