Purpose of Service: The Psychiatrist will provide high-quality, patient-centered mental health care to UN staff and eligible beneficiaries. This role ensures comprehensive assessment, effective treatment interventions, and interdisciplinary collaboration to improve patient outcomes, increase access to mental health services, and uphold medical ethics and confidentiality. The service supports a safe, respectful, and inclusive healthcare environment, ensuring continuity of care and stakeholder satisfaction.

Work Location: ECA, Addis Ababa
Expected Duration: 9 months

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patient needs
  • Provide a full range of psychiatric care, including medication management, psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and emergency mental health services
  • Educate patients on mental health conditions, treatment options, coping strategies, and the importance of regular follow-up care
  • Prepare and maintain accurate, comprehensive psychiatric records and documentation for referring clinicians
  • Consult with medical and allied health staff regarding psychiatric findings and recommend further investigations or specialist referrals when needed
  • Ensure proper operation, maintenance, and safety of psychiatric equipment, adhering to infection control and confidentiality protocols
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and contribute to overall patient management plans
  • Uphold the highest standards of medical ethics, professionalism, and confidentiality
  • Collaborate with other clinical leads and administrative staff as required

Qualifications / Special Skills:

  • First-level university degree qualifying the candidate for registration as a licensed Medical Doctor with a Specialty Certificate in Psychiatry
  • Current, unrestricted registration with the medical licensing authority of a UN Member State
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible clinical experience after specialization
  • Previous work experience in an international organization, such as the United Nations, is an advantage

Languages:

  • Fluency in oral and written English is required
  • Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage
