Protection Assistant – PCM Case Worker

Job Summary
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is seeking a highly motivated Protection Assistant – PCM Case Worker for its operations in Dima Field Office. Under the line management of the Protection Team Leader and with technical support from the Case Management Protection Specialist, the Protection Assistant – PCM Case Worker will implement protection case management activities and provide direct case management services to survivors and other crisis-affected beneficiaries.

The role involves working closely with the DRC Tigray Protection Team, including protection case management, community-based protection, legal protection teams, and supporting activities within protection centers.

Key Responsibilities

Protection Case Management Activities
Implement general protection case management activities in line with international standards, best practices, and DRC protection guidelines. Identify and receive referrals of individuals facing protection risks and provide tailored case management services while strictly adhering to safety protocols, confidentiality, consent, and national and international standards. Conduct intake interviews and open cases when vulnerability criteria are met.

Assessment, Planning and Follow-Up
Carry out comprehensive protection risk assessments with informed consent, considering emotional, behavioral, social, and protection-related risk factors. Develop individualized case or safety plans in collaboration with survivors based on identified needs. Conduct identification, assessment, planning, intervention, follow-up, and case closure processes for vulnerable beneficiaries. Seek support from Protection Managers or Case Management Specialists for complex or sensitive cases and participate in debriefing sessions.

Community Engagement and Coordination
Work closely with community structures, partner organizations, and beneficiary communities. Assist in establishing integrated protection case management centers that provide culturally and socially appropriate services. Conduct referrals to relevant service providers and recommend case closure based on beneficiary progress.

Monitoring, Documentation and Reporting
Follow up on case management activities and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to the Case Management Officer or Supervisor based in Maitsebri. Ensure proper documentation of all cases, including assessments, means of verification, and case studies. Support protection monitoring teams in identifying protection trends and needs and recommend appropriate responses.

Data Management and Compliance
Ensure ethical and statistically sound data collection, analysis, and reporting procedures. Analyze disaggregated protection data to inform programming and response activities. Maintain and regularly update case management databases and trackers. Enter client data accurately and timely into DRC Case Management Information Management systems or Excel tools as appropriate.

Administrative and Coordination Responsibilities
Participate in regular supervision sessions, internal case conferences, technical reviews, team meetings, trainings, and workshops. Carry out additional protection-related tasks as assigned by the Protection Manager.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Education
University degree in Social Work, Social Sciences, Law, or another relevant field from a recognized institution.

Experience
Minimum of one year of experience in an entry to mid-level position in humanitarian protection or a relevant social service field. Experience working in the Tigray region is mandatory. Proven experience in community-based protection activities and community engagement. Demonstrated understanding of core protection concepts, ethical data collection, and data protection protocols. Experience in identifying and responding to the needs of vulnerable individuals using age, gender, and diversity analysis.

Skills and Competencies
Strong planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and within a team. High integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Commitment to learning and applying organizational policies and procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of Kobo and other data collection tools is an advantage. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Language Requirements
Good proficiency in written and spoken English, Amharic, and Tigrigna.

Salary and benefits will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council National Staff Terms of Employment. Employment is subject to funding confirmation.
