Job Summary
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is seeking a highly qualified Protection Assistant – Monitoring for its operations in Sheraro Field Office. Under the line management of the Protection Team Leader, technical supervision of the Protection Specialist – Monitoring, and guidance of the Protection Officer (Monitoring), the Protection Assistant – Monitoring will implement protection monitoring activities in selected IDP sites and host communities in Sheraro and surrounding areas.
The role focuses on planning and conducting protection monitoring visits among internally displaced persons, returnees, and host communities through data collection, referrals, information sharing, and timely reporting of protection risks and trends. The position also supports individuals with specific needs and contributes to other protection activities implemented by DRC in contested areas.
Key Responsibilities
Protection Monitoring Activities
Conduct protection monitoring in assigned areas, including IDP sites and host communities. Identify protection trends and needs through key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and direct observation. Use approved data collection systems and tools in line with international standards, best practices, and DRC protection monitoring guidelines. Ensure ethical data collection and adherence to protection principles and data protection SOPs.
Case Identification and Referral
Identify individuals at risk, provide appropriate information, and refer cases for specialized assistance. Support Protection Officers in the coordination and implementation of Individual Protection Assistance. Regularly monitor beneficiaries’ access to services and the effectiveness of referrals in addressing protection risks.
Community Engagement and Coordination
Conduct community awareness-raising and information dissemination on protection risks, prevention, and mitigation strategies. Maintain good relationships with stakeholders to gather information on new displacements and support safe referrals. Engage respectfully and consistently with community-based structures in culturally appropriate ways.
Data Management and Reporting
Ensure accurate documentation of all activities conducted as means of verification. Participate in protection and multisectoral assessments. Support the preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly reports. Contribute to protection monitoring reports and protection analysis with accurate and timely data.
Capacity Building and Compliance
Participate in relevant trainings including Protection Information Management. Adhere strictly to ethical standards, safeguarding policies, and DRC’s Code of Conduct throughout all protection monitoring processes.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education
University degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Law, Social Work, International Development, or a related field from a recognized institution.
Experience
Minimum of one year of experience in an entry to mid-level position in humanitarian response or refugee/IDP protection with an international NGO, UN agency, government ministry, or local authority. Experience in conducting protection monitoring or assessments using online data collection tools such as Kobo and Activity Info. Experience working with displaced or conflict-affected populations is required.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team. High integrity, strong work ethic, and ability to meet deadlines under pressure. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; knowledge of Kobo and other data collection tools is desirable.
Language Requirements
Excellent spoken, reading, and writing skills in English, Amharic, and Tigrigna.

Salary and benefits will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council National Staff Terms of Employment. Employment is subject to funding confirmation.
