About the Organization
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is a leading intergovernmental organization established in 1951 and is a related organization of the United Nations. IOM works closely with governments, international agencies, and non-governmental organizations to promote humane and orderly migration worldwide.
The organization provides services and advice to governments and migrants to support safe migration, humanitarian assistance, and sustainable development. With operations in more than 100 countries, IOM plays a critical role in addressing migration challenges and supporting vulnerable communities.
In Ethiopia, IOM works across multiple regions to support migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, and host communities. The organization implements programs focused on protection, humanitarian assistance, health services, and community resilience.
The Health and Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) program is one of the key initiatives implemented by IOM in Ethiopia. This program provides essential health services including medical consultations, maternal and child health services, nutrition support, and health promotion.
The program currently operates in several regions of Ethiopia including Tigray, Amhara, Oromia, Afar, Somali, Dire Dawa, South Ethiopia, South West Ethiopia, and Benishangul-Gumuz.
These health programs support vulnerable communities affected by conflict, environmental challenges, and displacement. They aim to improve access to healthcare services and strengthen health systems across the country.
IOM also supports migrants entering Ethiopia through border points, including those affected by regional crises such as the Sudan conflict.
Through integrated health and psychosocial support programs, the organization ensures a comprehensive approach to patient care and community well-being.
Working with IOM offers professionals an opportunity to contribute to impactful humanitarian work while developing valuable experience in international development and emergency response programs.
The organization promotes diversity, inclusion, and professional development while maintaining high standards of integrity and humanitarian principles.
