People & Culture Business Partner

Job Summary
The People & Culture Business Partner supports managers and staff in HR operations, staff development, performance management, and employee well-being. The role ensures proper HR policies are followed, promotes a collaborative culture, and acts as a mediator in performance and disciplinary processes.

Key Responsibilities

Staff Recruitment, Onboarding & Orientation

  • Coordinate recruitment processes, including JD development, job postings, shortlisting, interviews, and reference checks
  • Support onboarding, ensuring new staff understand WVE policies and job expectations

Staff Development & Training

  • Support ongoing staff development initiatives and training programs
  • Update and maintain HR systems (Workday or equivalent) with reporting lines, medical reviews, and clearance processes

Performance & People Management

  • Manage performance, counseling, staff grievance, and disciplinary issues with focus on manager competency
  • Support performance management processes and ensure documentation and compliance with legal and labor regulations
  • Act as an impartial mediator in disciplinary procedures

Employee Well-being & Culture

  • Plan team-building exercises, staff social events, and recognition platforms
  • Foster a professional and collaborative organizational culture across departments and teams

Required Qualifications

  • BA in Management, Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field
  • Professional membership of a relevant HR body
  • Experience in Workday or similar HRIS
  • HEAT/SRMT or UN-equivalent training
  • Training in trauma counseling, adult safeguarding, and local labor law

Required Experience & Skills

  • 4–6 years in HR Business Partnering or related specialist roles
  • INGO experience in field operations and hardship locations
  • Strong consultation skills with senior leaders
  • Proficient in coaching, mediating, influencing, facilitation, presentation, communication, analysis, and problem-solving
  • Knowledge of HR practices and employment legislation
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English; Amharic and local language (Aff Somali)
