About the Organization
Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is a distinguished indigenous, non-governmental, and humanitarian organization that has been a pillar of community support in Ethiopia since 1997. Originally established to prevent “street-ism” and rehabilitate street mothers and children, MCMDO has evolved over nearly three decades into a multisectoral powerhouse. The organization has successfully implemented over 148 projects, touching the lives of approximately 7.5 million beneficiaries across 250 woredas.
The organization operates across seven critical thematic areas: Health, Education, Skills Training, Family and Community Support, Water and Sanitation, Urban Agriculture/Environmental Protection, and the Economic Empowerment of Women. MCMDO is recognized for its deep roots in the communities it serves and its ability to respond rapidly to both emergency and developmental needs. By joining MCMDO, you are joining a team dedicated to resilience, dignity, and sustainable change for the most vulnerable populations in Ethiopia.
Our organizational culture is built on the principles of transparency, accountability, and a “survivor-centered” approach. We believe that local expertise is the most effective tool for humanitarian intervention. Working with us means being part of a professional family that values integrity and local knowledge, ensuring that our projects—whether providing clean water or child protection—are culturally sensitive and impactful.
Professional growth at MCMDO is driven by the diversity and scale of our projects. Employees gain unique experience in managing complex humanitarian responses, often in partnership with major international donors and UN agencies. We provide a platform for professionals to lead, innovate, and develop specialized skills in protection, mental health, and project coordination within a national context that is both challenging and rewarding.
MCMDO is a staunch advocate for equity and diversity in the workplace. We believe that our humanitarian mission is best served by a team that reflects the community’s diversity. Therefore, we strongly and explicitly encourage qualified women and individuals from various backgrounds to apply for these critical roles. We maintain a zero-tolerance policy regarding sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment, ensuring a safe and respectful environment for both our staff and our beneficiaries.
Job Description and Strategic Impact
The current vacancies are part of a critical emergency project titled “Reinforcing Protection and GBV response service for people affected by Displacement and Drought in Afar Zone, Yalo Woreda.” These roles are at the forefront of MCMDO’s humanitarian mission, providing life-saving interventions to over 12,000 beneficiaries. Your work will directly address Gender-Based Violence (GBV), child protection, and mental health needs in regions currently facing the double burden of conflict and environmental crisis.
The Project Coordinator and Protection Officer roles are strategic anchors, ensuring that case management, dignity kit distributions, and “Cash for Protection” initiatives reach those in need safely and transparently. These roles involve heavy community engagement, working with traditional leaders to ensure that protection services are accessible and respected. Your leadership ensures that the “Do No Harm” principle is not just a policy, but a daily practice in the field.
The MHPSS Team Leader and the Logistics, Admin, and Finance Officer provide the technical and operational backbone required for field success. From providing trauma-informed counseling to managing complex procurement and CBPF budget lines, these roles ensure that the project is clinically sound and financially transparent. You will be responsible for building the capacity of local health workers and ensuring that life-saving supplies reach remote kebeles without delay.
A “day-in-the-life” in these positions is demanding yet profoundly rewarding. You might find yourself providing clinical supervision to a mobile outreach team, coordinating a high-risk protection case, or ensuring that financial records meet the highest audit-ready standards in a remote, high-temperature environment. These roles offer a rare opportunity to see the immediate impact of your work on individual lives and community resilience.
The strategic impact of these roles extends to institutionalizing Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP). By joining this project, you are helping to set a benchmark for humanitarian response in Ethiopia. Your dedication ensures that aid is delivered with dignity, and that the protection systems established today provide a foundation for a safer, more resilient future for the people of Yalo Woreda.
