Midwife

Job Summary
Samaritan’s Purse is seeking a dedicated Midwife to support medical care delivery in Gazgiba Woreda through the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) and recovering health centers. The Midwife will provide high-quality reproductive, maternal, and newborn health services in a low-resource setting while demonstrating flexibility, cultural sensitivity, and strong teamwork.

Key Responsibilities
Apply medical knowledge and skills to prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases in accordance with Samaritan’s Purse and government protocols. Conduct patient consultations, prescribe appropriate treatment, and ensure patients and families understand care plans. Promote and refer patients to reproductive health services including ANC and PNC. Conduct postnatal visits for mothers and newborns within 72 hours of delivery. Provide reproductive health education and ensure follow-up of pregnant and postnatal women. Collaborate with Community Health Workers to identify women in need of services. Maintain accurate clinical documentation and epidemiological data. Submit timely weekly and monthly reports. Ensure culturally sensitive communication and strict patient confidentiality. Support infection prevention and control compliance, clinical mentoring, and monitoring of MMU supplies and equipment. Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Midwifery from a recognized university with a minimum of one year of clinical experience, preferably in a low-resource or humanitarian setting.

Language Requirements
Proficiency in English and Amharic is required. Knowledge of the regional language is mandatory. Additional Ethiopian languages are an advantage.

Reasoning Ability

Physical Demands
Requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, and perform physical activities including bending, climbing, and crouching. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision.

Work Environment
Field-based work with exposure to communicable diseases, hot and humid conditions, moderate to occasionally loud noise levels, and a fluid security context.
