Role Purpose
The Manager – Business Assurance plays a critical role in safeguarding company revenue and margins by implementing and overseeing robust revenue assurance controls. The role ensures accurate billing, protects against revenue leakage, and provides independent assurance on the integrity of financial operations across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Provide independent and reliable assurance that revenues due to the company are accurately captured and billed through proactive implementation, execution, and monitoring of Revenue Assurance controls in line with the Revenue Assurance Charter. Protect revenue and margins by identifying, mitigating, and managing risks related to revenue leakage, billing accuracy, payment integrity, and revenue management controls across all business lines.
Develop and maintain a robust revenue assurance framework covering key revenue streams including Voice, SMS, Data, and M-PESA. Oversee automated billing assurance controls for new and emerging revenue growth areas. Lead financial services assurance activities including M-PESA billing, airtime distribution, agent commissions, and e-value reconciliations. Ensure accurate configuration of rating and billing systems in alignment with approved business rules. Conduct audits of network and billing configurations across key revenue-generating platforms to detect potential leakage risks. Assure roaming and interconnect revenues through daily reconciliations and timely issue resolution.
Ensure revenue reporting accuracy in line with IFRS standards and support Finance in achieving complete and accurate daily revenue reconciliations between BI, ERP, and Revenue Assurance systems. Champion reconciliations for top-ups, vouchers, deferred revenue, and customer balances. Monitor churn trends and provide insights on correlations with products and services. Deliver insights on fraud risks, international revenue share, and competitive performance.
Ensure full payment integrity for key direct costs including commissions, partner revenue share, roaming, and interconnect settlements. Identify and resolve negative margin scenarios and ensure timely dispute resolution.
Leadership and Strategic Collaboration
Lead and develop the Revenue Assurance team through clear priorities, coaching, and inspirational leadership. Build a future-ready team with strong digital and technical capabilities. Foster an inclusive environment that promotes psychological safety and aligns with Safaricom Leadership Standards. Collaborate closely with commercial, technology, and operational teams to drive effective revenue assurance initiatives and system automation.

Revenue and cost exposure maintained within defined thresholds. Timely detection and resolution of billing and rating gaps. Accurate provisioning and reconciliation of customer records within SLA. Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Economics, Commerce, Engineering, or IT. Professional certifications in auditing, accounting, risk management, or information systems are an added advantage. Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in an assurance or risk management function. Strong analytical, business acumen, and communication skills are required.
