Job Overview
World Vision is seeking an Environment and Climate Action Senior Advisor to provide strategic and technical support on environmental stewardship and climate action across East Africa. The role includes designing and implementing ESCA programs, building capacity of field offices, resource mobilization, and engaging with key stakeholders and donors.
Education
- Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, Climate Change, or Program Management/International Development (added advantage)
Experience
- Minimum 5 years working experience in climate change, environmental stewardship, program development, implementation, and resource mobilization in emergency, development, or advocacy contexts
- Experience with bilateral and UN donors is required
Key Responsibilities
- Support roll-out and application of Environmental Stewardship Policy across Field Offices
- Build capacity of Field Offices to implement ESCA projects and integrate environmental programming
- Develop capability statements, business cases, and learning materials to strengthen ESCA initiatives
- Nurture communities of practice at field level and promote practical steps to reduce WV’s environmental footprint
- Monitor, track, and report on ESCA initiatives against regional and global KPIs
- Provide technical advice on ESCA policies and strategies
- Support grant applications and resource mobilization for ESCA projects
- Engage externally with donors, partners, and networks to position WV as a leading partner for ESCA programs
- Support the Nexus Approach by integrating humanitarian, development, and peacebuilding initiatives
- Represent the region in relevant working groups, fora, and organizational discussions
Skills & Competencies
- Strategic thinking and planning with practical field assessment ability
- Strong project management, research, and proposal writing skills
- Ability to influence senior field stakeholders and build capacity
- Knowledge of livelihoods, international development, humanitarian response, and donor landscapes
- Technical knowledge of ESCA project models and approaches
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong networking, collaboration, and negotiation skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, databases, and statistical tools
Good-to-Have
- Basic French skills
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 60% of the time, including extended periods of 4–6 weeks in the field
