Job Description
The Electrician LICA 5 will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and rebuilding of diesel generators and other electrical appliances at UNHCR facilities in Asosa, Ethiopia. This role ensures that all electrical systems, including office and guesthouse installations, operate safely and efficiently.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring all new electrical installations meet standard safety and performance norms.
- Inspecting existing installations and performing remedial actions where needed.
- Developing and following maintenance schedules for electrical systems.
- Supervising maintenance of office and guesthouse generators, both by external contractors and performing basic maintenance tasks directly, including checking oil, fuel, and coolant levels.
- Identifying obsolete or unsafe equipment and recommending replacements.
- Preparing a list of spare parts required for routine and emergency maintenance.
- Assisting in the procurement of electrical materials and supervising contractor work.
- Enforcing adherence to local and international electrical safety standards.
- Conducting inventory checks and ensuring compliance of generator systems and wiring.
- Preparing reports on inspections, maintenance, and material requirements.
- Training colleagues in preventive maintenance techniques.
- Producing monthly maintenance reports and ensuring repair activities are logged accurately.
- Supporting risk management in the functional area and escalating issues as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
This role is pivotal for ensuring uninterrupted power supply, workplace safety, and the reliability of critical equipment, directly contributing to UNHCR’s humanitarian mission.
Educational Qualification
Candidates should have one of the following:
- A High School Diploma with at least 2 years of relevant electrical experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 1 year of relevant experience.
Relevant certifications include Electrical Studies, Electricity, and Electronics/Electro-Mechanics. Candidates with experience in power supply systems will have a competitive advantage.
Work Experience
- Essential: Practical experience in electrical equipment installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Desirable: Experience in power supply management and working with generators.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of electrical equipment installation and maintenance.
- Ability to inspect, test, and troubleshoot electrical and generator systems.
- Familiarity with local and international safety standards for electrical installations.
- Good communication skills in English and, if applicable, the UN working language of the duty station.

Employment Type and Salary
