Job Description
Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia is seeking a skilled and professional driver to provide safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services, supporting the organization’s operational and project implementation needs. The driver will be responsible for transporting staff, goods, and documents while ensuring vehicles are properly maintained and travel routes are optimized for efficiency and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate assigned vehicles to transport staff, official documents, and goods for work-related purposes.
- Plan and follow optimal travel routes, considering safety, fuel efficiency, and timely arrival.
- Maintain accurate records of trips, mileage, fuel usage, and destinations using logbooks and ERP systems.
- Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking oil, coolant, water, tire pressure, brakes, battery, lights, and other essential systems.
- Ensure vehicles are regularly cleaned, serviced, and maintained in good mechanical condition.
- Refuel vehicles according to organizational policies and accurately record fuel usage.
- Provide logistical support for field events, workshops, and training sessions.
- Submit all vehicle-related receipts, including fuel, per-diem, and accommodation expenses, promptly and accurately.
- Ensure the safety of passengers, vehicles, and organizational property at all times.
- Report accidents, theft, or damage promptly to the line manager and complete required documentation.
- Participate in safety and defensive driving training programs as required.
- Perform ad-hoc transport and logistical tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
- Contribute to creating an inclusive and respectful work environment, supporting women and underrepresented groups in all project activities.
- Demonstrate reliability, punctuality, and a high level of professionalism in all tasks.
Educational Qualification
- Completion of High School (Grade 10 or 12).
- Valid 3rd Level or Public-1 driving license with defensive driving certification.
Work Experience
- A minimum of 4 to 6 years of full-time driving experience is required.
- Experience working with NGOs or in international development programs is considered an advantage.
- Proven ability to navigate local roads, routes, and traffic patterns safely and efficiently.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Safe and defensive driving skills with a strong focus on passenger and vehicle safety.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for minor vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure or in emergency situations.
- Strong teamwork and customer service orientation.
- Accurate recordkeeping and documentation skills, including familiarity with ERP systems and basic computer applications.
- Punctuality, reliability, and attention to detail.
