Job Description:
The Driver position at Amref Health Africa in Ethiopia plays a vital role in supporting the implementation of its programs by providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation. The driver ensures staff, goods, and official documents are transported securely and punctually to program sites, offices, and partner locations. This role contributes to the smooth execution of field activities and allows technical and program staff to focus on achieving organizational goals.

The driver will also oversee vehicle maintenance and ensure vehicles are always in good working condition. This includes performing daily inspections, monitoring fuel usage, and coordinating routine servicing. By maintaining high standards of vehicle care, the driver ensures uninterrupted field operations, directly supporting Amref Ethiopia’s mission to improve community health.

This position also involves logistical and administrative support, including delivering supplies to project areas, assisting with workshop or event setups, and accurately recording travel and fuel expenses. The driver is a key member of the operational team, helping to strengthen overall project efficiency and service delivery.

The role offers an opportunity to gain exposure to international health programs and develop professional experience in a structured NGO environment. Drivers will work closely with program teams across multiple regions, enhancing understanding of large-scale health service delivery and the importance of reliable field logistics in achieving measurable health outcomes.

Educational Qualification:

  • Completion of High School (Grade 10 or 12).
  • Valid 3rd Level or Public-1 driving license with defensive driving certification.

Work Experience:

  • At least 4 to 6 years of full-time driving experience, preferably with experience in the NGO or development sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate vehicles in diverse terrains and under varying road conditions.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong skills in safe and defensive driving.
  • Good knowledge of local roads, routes, and traffic patterns.
  • Ability to plan travel efficiently to ensure punctuality and minimize risks.
  • Reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to perform minor vehicle maintenance.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies responsibly.
  • Teamwork orientation and strong customer service focus.
  • Accurate recordkeeping for mileage, fuel, trips, and expenses using ERP systems and basic computer tools.

Job Location:

  • Afar Region, Amhara Region, Somali Region, Oromia Region, and South Ethiopia, Ethiopia.
