About the Program:

The Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration (DDR) program in Ethiopia is a critical initiative to implement the peace agreement signed between the Government of Ethiopia and the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) on 2nd November 2022. The program aims to facilitate the disarmament of former combatants from Tigray, Amhara, and Afar regions, support their demobilization and reintegration into civilian life, and promote peace, reconciliation, and sustainable development in Northern Ethiopia. UNDP works closely with the National Rehabilitation Commission (NRC) and other national and international partners to ensure the program’s success.

Job Summary:

The Driver will provide safe, reliable, and efficient transport services in support of UNDP operations and program staff. This role includes vehicle maintenance, logistical support, and adherence to all safety and security standards. The Driver will contribute to the smooth operation of program activities, workshops, meetings, and official missions.

Key Responsibilities:

Apply defensive driving principles under all conditions; provide punctual, reliable, and secure transportation for staff and official guests; maintain vehicle cleanliness and readiness; conduct daily checks on fuel, water, oil, brakes, tires, and battery; perform minor repairs and coordinate with mechanics for maintenance; maintain accurate daily logs and documentation; assist program and operations staff during workshops, meetings, and official events; support procurement activities and deliver/receive messages for program and operations teams; ensure compliance with UN vehicle policies, asset management, and security protocols; report accidents or incidents promptly to supervisors, UNDSS, and local authorities; ensure availability of necessary documents, vehicle insurance, first aid kits, and spare parts; perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High School Certificate (minimum requirement); Diploma in Auto Mechanics or related field is an advantage. Minimum 2 years of driving experience with international organizations or humanitarian/development NGOs; experience in vehicle maintenance and defensive driving is highly desired. Previous UN driving experience is an asset. Valid 3rd Grade Driver’s License. Strong knowledge of driving rules, regulations, and 4WD vehicles. Defensive driving skills and basic vehicle repair ability. Fluency in spoken and written English and the national language; local language is an asset. Computer literacy is a plus. Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
