Job Description:
The DevOps Engineer will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, supporting containerized applications, and ensuring operational excellence across Safaricom Ethiopia’s platforms. This role involves collaboration with development, security, and product teams to deliver secure, scalable, and reliable software solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins.
- Support and manage containerized applications with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Collaborate with development and security teams to embed DevSecOps practices.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production and deployment issues.
- Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture and information security standards.
- Document pipelines, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Provide first-line (L1) and second-line (L2) support for application, infrastructure, and deployment issues.
- Handle service requests, log incidents, track SLAs, and escalate unresolved issues to L3 with proper documentation.
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response to ensure reduced MTTR and improved system availability.
- Perform post-incident reviews and implement preventive fixes.
Operational Excellence:
- Collaborate with development teams to establish and maintain automated CI/CD processes.
- Monitor and analyze system performance to identify bottlenecks and optimize efficiency.
- Implement and maintain security best practices, including vulnerability scanning, patch management, and access controls.
- Work closely with development, operations, and product teams to deploy applications and ensure successful delivery.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies, tools, and processes to improve DevOps practices.
- Maintain up-to-date infrastructure and deployment documentation.
- Stay current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in DevOps.
Educational Qualification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or a related field.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of two years of professional coding and DevOps experience outside of an academic environment.
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer or similar role, with hands-on experience in CI/CD tools (GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Experience working with Linux systems and Kubernetes.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Ruby, or Bash.
- Experience with automation and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
- Proficiency in containerization and orchestration frameworks (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with monitoring and log aggregation tools (Prometheus, ELK stack, Grafana, Splunk).
- Strong knowledge of networking principles, protocols, and security (TCP/IP, VPNs, firewalls).
- Familiarity with version control systems (Git, SVN) and agile methodologies.
- Excellent problem-solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively in cross-functional teams.
