Job Description
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a highly skilled Deputy Director of People & Culture (P&C) to lead and strengthen its human resource management and organizational culture in Ethiopia. This role supports IRC’s mission to provide humanitarian assistance and promote inclusive, safe, and high-performing workplaces.
Position Overview
The Deputy Director of People & Culture will oversee the full spectrum of HR functions, including recruitment, performance management, learning and development, employee engagement, safeguarding, and workforce planning. The position requires strategic leadership, collaboration with senior management, and the ability to ensure alignment with IRC’s global values and Ethiopian labor regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation of people and culture strategies across all field offices.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, performance evaluation, and staff development.
- Foster an inclusive and respectful work environment that promotes gender equality and well-being.
- Ensure compliance with IRC HR policies, safeguarding standards, and national labor laws.
- Support leadership development, succession planning, and organizational learning.
- Oversee employee relations, compensation, and benefits management.
- Drive employee engagement initiatives to strengthen organizational culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 10 years’ progressive HR experience, preferably in international or humanitarian organizations.
- Demonstrated leadership in managing large teams and HR operations.
- Strong understanding of Ethiopian labor laws and global HR best practices.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Fluency in English required.
