Job Purpose
The Child Protection Officer is responsible for the direct implementation and monitoring of child protection activities in the assigned area. The role focuses on case management, community-based child protection programming, capacity building of local stakeholders, and integration of child protection principles across sectors. The officer serves as a key focal point and advocate for child rights and child protection concerns.
Key Responsibilities
Identify children at risk through outreach, referrals, and community networks.
Provide psychosocial first aid and basic emotional support to children and caregivers.
Manage child protection cases and referrals to health, legal, and psychosocial services, ensuring proper follow-up.
Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date case files using approved tools and systems.
Support establishment and strengthening of community-based child protection mechanisms.
Conduct awareness sessions on child rights, positive parenting, GBV, child labor, and early marriage.
Support the setup and supervision of child- and adolescent-friendly safe spaces.
Engage men and boys in child protection and gender equality initiatives.
Train and mentor community volunteers and partner staff on child protection principles and referral pathways.
Participate in local child protection coordination meetings and work closely with other sectors.
Monitor child protection trends, incidents, and service gaps in the area of operation.
Prepare regular activity reports and contribute to donor reporting and documentation.
Support advocacy initiatives addressing systemic child protection issues.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Law, Community Development, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience for Master’s degree holders or 4 years for Bachelor’s degree holders in child protection, preferably in an NGO or humanitarian setting.
Proven experience in child protection case management and documentation.
Strong knowledge of child development, child rights, and national and international child protection standards.
Excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging environments.
High level of integrity, empathy, and resilience.
Good command of English.
Knowledge of the local context is an added advantage.
Safeguarding and Compliance
Ensure compliance with IHS policies on PSEA, child safeguarding, anti-fraud, and code of conduct.
Uphold the highest standards of prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse within the area of responsibility.
