Job Description
The Business Development Coordinator leads the development of high-quality proposals and concept notes for humanitarian, development, and nexus programming areas.
The role provides strategic support to the Business Development Lead, coordinating inputs from program teams, technical specialists, finance, and grants management to ensure proposals meet donor priorities.
The Coordinator ensures that proposals are aligned with Plan International’s country strategy, global standards, and compliance requirements.
This position contributes directly to the organization’s ability to secure funding for programs that advance children’s rights and gender equality.
The role involves close collaboration with technical teams to develop budgets, logical frameworks, and narrative proposals that are competitive and technically sound.
The Coordinator supports proposal development processes for multiple sectors and thematic areas, ensuring timely submission of high-quality documents.
This position also strengthens internal systems, workflows, and tools to improve efficiency and proposal quality.
The role includes supporting donor mapping, capacity statements, and quarterly funding gap analyses to inform strategic fundraising decisions.
The Coordinator will lead coordination across national offices, grants teams, and program staff to ensure proposals are evidence-based, contextually grounded, and aligned with operational capacities.
The role also contributes to building the organization’s credibility with donors through consistent, high-quality submissions.
Educational Qualification
Applicants must hold a BA degree in Economics, Sociology, Social Development, or a related field.
Professional development in proposal writing, fundraising, or resource mobilization is considered an asset.
Work Experience
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in resource mobilization or fund acquisition is required, including at least 2 years directly focused on proposal development within INGOs.
Experience developing proposals for both humanitarian and development programs is essential.
Previous experience coordinating inputs from multi-disciplinary teams and working with international and local partners is highly desirable.
Required Skills and Competencies
Proven ability to produce high-quality, successful proposals that meet donor requirements.
Strong understanding of donor compliance, requirements, and reporting standards.
Knowledge of multilateral and bilateral donors, including UN agencies, EU, ECHO, World Bank, USG, GAC, and MFA donors.
Ability to work under tight deadlines while coordinating diverse inputs.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to synthesize complex programmatic and financial information.
Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant tools.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, international environment.
Familiarity with humanitarian principles, minimum standards, and sectoral approaches.

Job Location
The position is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, at the Country Office.
The role requires regular coordination with program and field-based teams, as well as remote collaboration with national office staff.
Employment Type and Salary
This is a fixed-term, full-time position.
The role reports to the Business Development Lead and is classified at Grade D1.
Salary and benefits will be in accordance with Plan International’s policies for national staff.
