Assistant Finance Officer

Innovative Humanitarian Solutions (IHS) is a non-profit humanitarian organization committed to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children and crisis-affected communities. IHS operates in emergency and conflict-affected areas across Afar, Amhara, Tigray, and Benishangul-Gumuz regions. The organization is seeking a qualified Assistant Finance Officer to support effective financial management and ensure accountability of project resources.

Job Purpose
The Assistant Finance Officer is responsible for accurate recording, management, and safeguarding of organizational financial resources. The role supports sound financial decision-making, donor compliance, and long-term financial sustainability of IHS programs.

Key Responsibilities
Record all financial transactions accurately in cashbooks and accounting systems.
Maintain proper financial documentation including vouchers, receipts, invoices, and contracts.
Prepare payment vouchers and ensure completeness of supporting documents.
Assist in monthly financial reporting and bank and cash reconciliations.
Support budget monitoring and track expenditures against approved budgets.
Manage cash receipts, disbursements, petty cash, and daily cash balances.
Prepare bank deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and support bank reconciliations.
Follow up on advances and ensure timely liquidation.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies, donor rules, and Ethiopian regulations.
Support internal and external audits and maintain strong internal controls.
Verify procurement and supplier documents before processing payments.
Maintain organized financial records and ensure timely reporting to management and head office.
Support field-based financial operations, staff advances, per diem, and travel settlements.

Job Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
Minimum of 2 years of experience for Master’s degree holders or 4 years for Bachelor’s degree holders in finance or accounting roles.
Prior experience with NGOs or donor-funded projects is a strong advantage.
Basic training or certification in accounting software such as Peachtree, QuickBooks, or Excel is an asset.
Strong skills in bookkeeping, cash handling, and payment processing.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and basic computer applications.
Ability to organize financial records and work with accounting systems.
Knowledge of NGO financial procedures and donor compliance requirements.
