Job Description and Strategic Impact

The Livelihood Officer plays a fundamental strategic role in ensuring that rural communities can withstand economic and environmental shocks. Based in Kamba Zuria, this role is responsible for the practical implementation of both on-farm and off-farm livelihood initiatives. You will be the primary link between project models and the local context, ensuring that interventions in climate-smart agriculture and financial inclusion are adapted to meet the specific needs of the district.

Your “day-in-the-life” impact involves mobilizing communities and facilitating transparent targeting processes to ensure that aid reaches the most deserving households. You will lead participatory planning sessions, providing technical guidance on sustainable agriculture and market system development. By establishing demonstration sites and knowledge-sharing platforms, you empower farmers and small business owners to adopt resilient practices that secure their families’ futures.

Strategically, this position focuses on building the capacity of local stakeholders, including S4T (Savings for Transformation) groups and producers’ associations. You will identify opportunities for rural enterprises and income-generating activities, specifically targeting women and youth. By facilitating linkages to value chains and formal markets, you help transition subsistence activities into thriving, sustainable businesses that contribute to the regional economy.

This role offers significant professional growth opportunities within the international NGO sector. As you manage field-level project activities and monitor progress against ambitious targets, you will develop expertise in adaptive management and evidence-based reporting. The position allows you to work at the forefront of climate-smart agriculture and degraded land management, areas that are increasingly critical in the global development landscape.

Ultimately, the Livelihood Officer is an architect of community resilience. Your success is measured by the degree to which local communities take ownership of their development and drive sustainable improvements in nutrition and economic stability. By fostering strong partnerships with local leaders and government bodies, you ensure that the project’s impact continues long after the specific interventions are completed.
