Purpose of Service: The individual contractor (IC) will provide high-quality, ethical, and client-centered Gynecology and Obstetrics care to UN staff and eligible dependents. The IC contributes to improved health outcomes by providing accurate diagnoses, effective treatment plans, preventive services, and promoting medical education and public health awareness while maintaining strict confidentiality and professional standards.

Work Location: ECA ODESPS DA UNHCC, Addis Ababa
Expected Duration: 9 months

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide consultation services in Gynecology and Obstetrics during working days
  • Carry out gynecological consultations with empathy and care
  • Request laboratory, radiological, and other investigations to arrive at optimal diagnosis and management
  • Interpret results and explain conditions and treatment plans to patients in a clear, understandable way
  • Assist patients in obtaining appropriate treatment, including coordinating with the pharmacist and CMO for medications or special orders
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards; avoid sharing patient information without consent
  • Initiate medical evacuation for further investigation, diagnosis, or treatment in consultation with the CMO
  • Inform CMO/Deputy or head nurse of cases referred to other medical facilities for follow-up
  • Write detailed medical reports for referrals and approvals from UN Medical Directors
  • Conduct ante-natal consultations for pregnant staff or dependents
  • Provide family planning services, including addressing primary or secondary infertility
  • Conduct routine screening and check-ups related to Gynecology and Obstetrics
  • Contribute to newsletters in the consultant’s specialty to educate UN staff and dependents
  • Attend monthly continuous medical education sessions and present topics in the field of specialization
  • Present public lectures to staff on health topics or pandemics of interest
  • Demonstrate team spirit and punctuality, informing UNHCC administration at least 3 weeks in advance of any schedule changes

Qualifications / Special Skills:

  • First degree in general medicine with specialization in Gynecology/Obstetrics
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Gynecology/Obstetrics
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and common internet applications

Languages:

  • Fluency in oral and written English required
  • Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage
