Purpose of Service: The Cardiologist will ensure UNHCC clients receive high-quality, timely, and effective cardiovascular health care. This includes accurate diagnosis and management of cardiovascular conditions, prompt referral of critical cases for advanced care, and comprehensive medical examinations for employment purposes. The individual contractor’s expertise will contribute to improved health outcomes, client satisfaction, and the well-being of the UNHCC community.
Work Location: UN Health Care Center, Addis Ababa
Expected Duration: 9 months
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide consultation services in cardiology to UNHCC clients during working days
- Provide emergency consultation during off-duty hours if required
- Conduct echocardiography, Holter monitoring, BP monitoring, and other cardiology investigations
- Request laboratory, radiological, and other investigations to establish optimal diagnosis and management
- Interpret results, explain conditions, and guide patients on treatment options
- Assist patients in obtaining appropriate treatment, coordinating with pharmacists and CMO
- Maintain strict confidentiality and ethical standards in patient care
- Initiate medical evacuation if further investigation or treatment is required, coordinating with CMO and UN medical board
- Inform CMO/Deputy or head nurse of cases referred to other medical facilities for proper follow-up
- Prepare detailed medical reports for referrals and obtain medical approvals from UN Medical Directors
- Conduct routine screenings and cardiology check-ups
- Participate in writing educational newsletters in the field of cardiology
- Attend monthly medical education sessions, research, and present on topics of interest
- Deliver public lectures to UN staff and dependents on health topics and pandemics
- Demonstrate punctuality, teamwork, and inform UNHCC administration in advance of timetable changes
Qualifications / Special Skills:
- First degree in General Medicine and specialty in Internal Medicine with subspecialty in Cardiology
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Cardiology
- Proficiency in electronic medical record systems
- Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet applications
Languages:
- Fluency in English (oral and written) is required
- Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage
