About the Position
The Environmental Health Manager plans, coordinates and monitors all Water, Health and Sanitation (WASH) activities to support MSF emergency and medical interventions, ensuring full compliance with MSF standards and optimal project performance.
Main Responsibilities
Plan and review the annual Environmental Health budget; implement and monitor Environmental Health activities including water supply, waste management, hygiene and infection control; conduct routine EH assessments with medical teams; design and lead WASH interventions in emergencies; ensure availability and proper specifications of WASH materials and equipment; participate in HR processes including recruitment, training and evaluation of staff; provide technical support on infection-control risk factors; ensure proper Environmental Health data collection, analysis and reporting.
Project-Specific Responsibilities
Plan and oversee all Environmental Health operations with medical and logistics teams; conduct WASH assessments in health facilities, IDP/refugee camps and outbreak areas and recommend response actions; lead preventive interventions such as vector control, waterborne-disease mitigation and environmental management; supervise sanitation-infrastructure maintenance; oversee water-source systems (boreholes, tanks, solar pumping, chlorination); collaborate with logistics on WASH facility design and construction; prepare activity strategies, micro-plans and completion reports; manage EH supervisors and WASH staff; support NFI distribution; ensure implementation of WASH assessment tools; support budget planning for WASH needs; represent MSF in WASH coordination forums and cluster meetings with partners and authorities.
Education
BSc in Environmental Health, Environmental Health Science or Environmental & Occupational Health & Safety, OR
Master’s degree in Environmental Health Science or Environmental & Occupational Health & Safety.
Training in emergency Environmental Health activities is desirable.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of WASH project management in humanitarian or emergency settings; experience managing teams in emergencies; NGO/humanitarian experience is an asset; experience with two or more WASH components (water supply, excreta disposal, waste management, vector control, dead body management) in varied contexts preferred; public health background desirable.
Other Requirements
Flexibility to travel across Ethiopia on short notice, including weekends; fluent in English; local languages are an asset.
