Job Description and Strategic Impact
The Supply Chain Officer for Procurement serves as a critical pillar in the IRC’s ability to execute its humanitarian mission effectively. This position is not merely about administrative oversight; it is a strategic role that ensures the seamless delivery of essential supplies, goods, and services to those who rely on the IRC’s interventions. By maintaining an efficient procurement and fleet management system, this officer directly influences the speed and quality of the organization’s humanitarian response in the Gambella region.
In this role, the incumbent will navigate the complexities of supply chain operations, ensuring that every transaction, from procurement to final delivery, remains in strict compliance with donor requirements and IRC policies. This is a role designed for individuals who thrive on precision, as it involves managing everything from price rosters and framework agreements to complex fleet maintenance plans. The strategic impact lies in the ability to mitigate risks, optimize the use of scarce resources, and guarantee that program teams have the tools they need to operate under high-pressure, often life-saving, conditions.
The “day-to-day” of this position involves a high degree of cross-functional collaboration. The officer acts as a central coordinator between program heads, external vendors, and internal operations teams. This creates a fast-paced environment where the officer must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, analytical thinking, and the ability to negotiate with vendors to ensure the best value for money. It is an ideal role for someone looking to develop high-level expertise in supply chain management within a highly matrixed humanitarian organization.
Career development for this role is significant. The IRC provides the opportunity to engage with advanced ERP systems, such as the Integra brand, and to master the nuances of humanitarian logistics in a complex field location. Professionals in this role gain invaluable experience in regulatory compliance, audit management, and large-scale project support, which are highly transferable skills that open doors to further advancement within the humanitarian and development sectors.
Ultimately, the impact of the Supply Chain Officer reaches far beyond the office. By managing the procurement of supplies and the functionality of the fleet, the officer enables the field staff to reach remote areas, sustain health programs, and maintain essential services for refugees and local communities. This role is about operationalizing empathy and professionalism to ensure that the IRC’s promise to the vulnerable is fulfilled day in and day out.
