Job Description:
The Specialist in Transmission Planning and Optimization (Microwave) is responsible for planning, optimizing, and managing microwave transmission networks to ensure high-quality connectivity. This role plays a critical part in enabling end-to-end IP (MPLS) connectivity and supporting Safaricom Ethiopia’s network expansion and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Modeling and planning microwave transmission systems, including capacity planning and analysis.
  • Integrating microwave networks as an enabler for end-to-end IP connectivity.
  • Ensuring microwave network builds achieve 70% occupancy with 30% growth factor.
  • Conducting due diligence for the introduction of new microwave products, including trials, equipment evaluation, and recommendations for adoption.
  • Monitoring all microwave network elements and maintaining an updated network information database.
  • Managing microwave transmission projects from initial planning to handover to operations teams.
  • Overseeing equipment suppliers to ensure technical and commercial compliance and timely delivery.
  • Coordinating with teams for equipment space, power availability, and site survey validations.
  • Validating the accuracy of BOQs based on approved designs to support procurement.
  • Facilitating microwave network testing, acceptance, and compliance checks in coordination with operations.
  • Providing periodic reports on microwave network status, performance, and optimization plans.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and collaborating with the Technology Security team on infrastructure security.
  • Monitoring and planning network optimization for microwave transport networks.

Educational Qualification:

  • Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering or Higher National Diploma in Electronics/Telecommunications.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years of specialized experience in microwave transmission planning, installation, and commissioning projects in a busy telecommunications environment.
  • Fundamental knowledge of IP and DWDM transmission technologies.
  • Expert in Pathloss design tools.
  • Working knowledge of IP network principles and software-defined networking.
  • Knowledge of network scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python).
