Job Description

World Vision Ethiopia is seeking an experienced and dynamic Project Manager to lead the implementation of a USG/BHA-funded Multisector Emergency Response Project in Afar Regional State.

The Project Manager will oversee integrated emergency interventions across WASH, Health and Nutrition, Shelter and Non-Food Items, Protection mainstreaming, and Community Engagement and Accountability.

The role requires ensuring high-quality and timely project delivery in compliance with donor requirements, humanitarian principles, and government coordination structures.

The Project Manager will lead overall planning, implementation, and monitoring of multisector activities according to approved project design and work plans.

The position involves coordinating sectoral interventions at woreda level to ensure integration and synergy among health, WASH, NFI, and protection activities.

The role includes facilitating inception meetings, community engagement initiatives, and stakeholder coordination forums.

The Project Manager will maintain strong collaboration with DRMC, Health and WASH Bureaus, UNOCHA, cluster leads, UN agencies, NGOs, and local administrations.

Staff supervision is a key responsibility, including coaching, performance management, and promoting a culture of accountability and teamwork.

The position requires strong oversight of budget utilization, variance analysis, and compliance with donor financial regulations.

The Project Manager will ensure procurement processes are aligned with organizational and donor standards and that essential supplies are delivered on time.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning processes must be effectively implemented, including baseline studies, post-distribution monitoring, and reporting.

The role involves producing regular situation updates and donor-compliant reports, ensuring transparency and quality documentation.

The Project Manager will represent World Vision in cluster meetings and humanitarian coordination platforms at regional and zonal levels.

Risk identification and mitigation planning are central to the role, particularly in managing operational and protection-related risks.

Safeguarding standards must be enforced across all project activities to protect children and vulnerable populations.

This position offers significant impact by strengthening emergency response systems and improving the lives of affected communities in Afar.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nutrition, WASH Engineering, Development Studies, or a related humanitarian field.

A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.

Work Experience

A minimum of five years of professional experience in humanitarian emergency project management is required.

Experience managing USG/BHA-funded projects or projects funded by major donors such as ECHO, UNICEF, WFP, or UNHCR is highly desirable.

Proven experience managing multisector interventions including Health, Nutrition, WASH, NFI distribution, and Protection is required.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Strong understanding of humanitarian standards such as Sphere, CHS, and BHA guidelines.
• Knowledge of emergency logistics, procurement, supply chain management, and cash transfer modalities.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.

Job Location

Afar Regional State, Ethiopia.

The role is field-based and requires frequent travel to project woredas and coordination with regional and zonal authorities as well as humanitarian partners.

The working environment may involve exposure to harsh climate conditions and remote field locations.
