Job Description

World Vision Ethiopia is seeking a qualified and motivated WASH Officer to support sanitation and hygiene promotion initiatives in Chilga, Ethiopia.

The WASH Officer will provide technical leadership in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) programming across refugee and host community settings, including schools and healthcare facilities.

Reporting to the Project Manager, the role focuses on developing behavior change communication strategies and strengthening the capacity of frontline health workers, community representatives, and local stakeholders.

The position requires strong collaboration with WASH Engineers and consortium partners to ensure effective project implementation.

The officer will identify sanitation and hygiene gaps within project sites and recommend corrective actions to improve service delivery.

The role includes overseeing hygiene promotion activities, ensuring messages are effectively disseminated to target communities.

The WASH Officer will support the development and tracking of the Detailed Implementation Plan (DIP), ensuring hygiene promotion activities align with construction timelines and project milestones.

The position involves compiling accurate weekly, monthly, and quarterly progress reports and communicating findings to stakeholders in accordance with organizational and donor policies.

The officer will represent World Vision in coordination meetings and maintain strong relationships with government authorities and local partners.

The role includes supporting inclusive district WASH planning to ensure equitable service access for refugee and host communities.

The WASH Officer will lead implementation of WASH FIT and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) protocols in healthcare facilities.

The position requires supporting school-based WASH interventions, including Menstrual Health and Hygiene (MHH) integration.

Community mobilization is a key responsibility, including establishing and strengthening WASH Committees, school WASH clubs, and community outreach groups.

The officer will lead monitoring, evaluation, and learning activities, including baseline, midline, and end-line surveys.

The role involves promoting accessible and culturally appropriate hygiene messaging, especially for women, children, and persons with disabilities.

The WASH Officer will document lessons learned, best practices, and significant change stories to enhance future program design.

This role offers meaningful impact by improving public health outcomes and strengthening community resilience in vulnerable settings.

Educational Qualification

Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Health Science, Public Health, WASH, or related fields.

Relevant academic training in sanitation, hygiene promotion, and community health systems is required.

Work Experience

A minimum of three years of professional experience in designing and implementing hygiene and sanitation programs is required.

Experience working in refugee and host community contexts is strongly preferred.

Hands-on experience with digital Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) tools such as KoboToolbox, mWater, or similar mobile data collection platforms is required.
