Finance Assistant

The Climate Change Cluster Service Unit (CCC-SU) is seeking a qualified and motivated Finance Assistant to support financial management operations in Addis Ababa. Job Description

The Finance Assistant plays a key role in supporting financial management, procurement coordination, and administrative services within the Climate Change Cluster Service Unit.

The position ensures accurate budget planning, financial monitoring, and compliance with legal, contractual, and internal GIZ policies. The Finance Assistant contributes to maintaining financial transparency and accountability across projects.

Key responsibilities include handling cash transactions, processing payments, supporting travel settlements, and assisting in procurement processes. The role requires close collaboration with Finance Officers, project managers, and the country office.

The Finance Assistant will coordinate contract award processes, monitor contract fulfillment, and ensure compliance with corporate and legal requirements.

This role also involves supporting knowledge management activities, preparing documentation, responding to financial inquiries, and advising staff on financial procedures and internal workflows.

Cash handling responsibilities include:

• Maintaining a cash point in accordance with GIZ guidelines
• Recording all cash transactions accurately in the system
• Ensuring proper documentation and signatures for vouchers
• Submitting cash closing reports on time
• Managing petty cash replenishment
• Ensuring safe custody and proper disbursement of funds

Payment-related duties include:

• Ensuring timely settlement of advance payments
• Processing payments efficiently and in compliance with GIZ policies

Travel and expense responsibilities include:

• Paying per diem in local currency in line with regulations
• Preparing travel settlements using the Concur system

The Finance Assistant may deputize Finance Officers when required and must immediately report financial or regulatory issues to supervisors. Additional tasks may be assigned based on operational needs.

This position offers the opportunity to strengthen expertise in international financial systems, contract administration, compliance management, and ERP-based accounting environments.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must hold a Diploma in Accounting, Financial Management, or a related field.

A solid academic background in accounting principles, financial systems, and regulatory frameworks is essential. Knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, and ERP systems is an added advantage.

Work Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of 2–3 years of relevant work experience in accounting or financial management.

Experience working with IT-based accounting programs is required.

Previous experience within a GIZ finance unit or similar international development organization is highly desirable.

Experience working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment will be considered an asset.

Job Location

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

The role is based in the capital city and may involve coordination with regional offices across Ethiopia.
