About the Role
The Education Technical Assistant will support the implementation of NRC’s education projects in Jigjiga by working closely with schools, communities, education offices, and project teams. The role focuses on monitoring activities, supporting teachers, mobilizing communities, maintaining documentation, and ensuring high-quality delivery of education interventions in humanitarian and recovery contexts.
Key Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
- Monitor and report on project activities to ensure compliance with NRC standards and plans
- Work with community education committees on planning and enrollment
- Distribute and monitor the use of school materials according to procedures
- Lead and support training and project activities to the highest standards
- Assist teachers in their daily work
- Suggest innovative methods to improve activity quality
- Report education-related concerns promptly
- Conduct data collection and prepare field reports
- Maintain and file required project documentation
- Support monitoring & evaluation and report writing activities
- Record and maintain field documents according to donor and NRC requirements
- Mobilize communities and beneficiaries to participate in education activities
- Maintain strong relationships with communities and implementing partners
- Support assessments and surveys with the Education team
- Assist with budgeting, accounting, and administrative tasks
Specific Responsibilities
- Support report writing, M&E, and documentation processes
- Translate as necessary for Education Officer and Project Coordinator
- Provide training on gender, climate change, life skills, business skills, and psychosocial support
- Support schools, PTSAs, Woreda and Zonal Education Offices in field implementation
- Follow NRC security protocols and promote safety within the team
- Scan and archive financial, procurement, and program documents
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the education program
Qualifications and Competencies
Professional Competencies
- Minimum 2 years of experience with NRC education projects in humanitarian or recovery settings
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience working in complex and volatile environments
- Proven results related to similar responsibilities
- Strong administrative, accounting, and reporting skills
- Good computer and English skills
- Strong training and facilitation skills

- Willingness to live and work in challenging conditions

- Fluency in Somali language is mandatory
