SPECIAL ASSISTANT, POLITICAL AFFAIRS (P4)

The United Nations is recruiting a Special Assistant, Political Affairs (P4) to support the Office of the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Sudan (OPESG-SUDAN). The position supports high-level political engagement, analysis, coordination, and reporting related to the Sudan peace process and regional political dynamics.

Key Responsibilities
Monitor, analyze, and report on political developments in Sudan and the region.
Advise the Personal Envoy on policy options, strategies, and political risks.
Coordinate and manage official meetings, visits, briefings, and follow-up actions.
Draft analytical reports, situation updates, briefing notes, and inputs to Secretary-General reports.
Maintain strong coordination with UN entities, regional actors, and international partners.
Support political outreach, mediation efforts, and fact-finding missions as required.
Contribute to programme planning and implementation under the guidance of senior leadership.

Education Requirement
Master’s degree in Political Science, International Relations, Law, Public Administration, or a related field.
A Bachelor’s degree with additional qualifying experience may be accepted.

Experience Requirement
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in political affairs or related fields.
At least 3 years of experience in political outreach, mediation, or facilitation.
Experience serving as a Special Assistant to a senior UN or international official is required.
Field experience in conflict or post-conflict settings, including Africa and Sudan, is required.
