Job Purpose
The Content Specialist will strengthen the ETC Communications Service Unit by developing clear, compelling, and high-quality communication products. The role focuses on translating technical and evidence-based content into engaging narratives for donors, partners, and diverse stakeholders while ensuring consistency with GIZ and donor communication standards.
Key Responsibilities
The Content Specialist will source, develop, and adapt content from projects and thematic practices; translate technical information into engaging stories and messages; edit, proofread, and format communication and knowledge products in line with branding standards; plan and manage multi-channel content including reports, briefs, blogs, social media, speeches, and web content; maintain editorial calendars and monitor content performance; ensure coherence and compliance across outputs; and collaborate closely with multimedia, design, donor liaison teams, and external consultants.
Qualifications
Postgraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field. Exceptional experience in the development sector may be considered in place of formal qualifications.
Professional Experience
A minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in communications, content development, or editorial work. Experience with newspapers, magazines, or digital platforms is an advantage. Experience working with donor co-funded projects, particularly EU-funded projects, is strongly desired.
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong writing, editing, research, and communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information into clear and engaging content. Creativity, analytical skills, effective communication, sociability, and experience with interactive and visual storytelling are highly valued.
Technical Skills
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. Skills in ad design, graphic design, data collection, and analysis are an advantage.
Language Requirements
Full professional proficiency in English is required. German is preferred. Knowledge of local Ethiopian languages such as Amharic, Afaan Oromo, or Tigrigna is an asset.
