Project Overview:
The Project Manager will lead an AICS-funded initiative leveraging tourism as a driver of economic diversification and inclusive growth in Ethiopia. The project has a dual geographic focus: Addis Ababa (urban tourism development) and Jimma/South-Western Oromia (community-based tourism and coffee heritage).
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning & Coordination:
- Prepare agreements with regional authorities.
- Draft detailed workplans, procurement plans, and financial tracking using PREPPY.
- Consolidate and review ToRs for all project activities.
- Approve weekly and monthly activity plans.
- Participate in local and regional coordination meetings.
Implementation:
- Manage day-to-day project implementation, field visits, and monitoring.
- Oversee contractors and field staff; ensure quality, accountability, and consistency.
- Lead baseline, midterm, and endline surveys; compile reports and data for M&E purposes.
- Provide technical and managerial solutions for challenges during implementation.
Reporting:
- Prepare and submit monthly progress reports, financial reports, and donor-required documentation.
- Lead the collection of technical reports from team members.
- Contribute to donor and government reporting, including interim, final, and ad hoc reports.
External Coordination:
- Organize internal and donor site visits, liaising with Head of Program and Head of Mission.
- Represent COOPI in technical working groups and relevant external meetings.
Project Development:
- Contribute to drafting new project proposals and innovative project concepts.
- Collect and analyze data from the area of intervention to support project planning and proposals.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Academic degree in Tourism Management, Development Studies, Project Management, Economics, Environmental Studies, Cultural Heritage Management, or related field.
- Professional project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2, or equivalent) is a strong advantage.
- Training in sustainable, community-based, or eco-tourism is an asset.
- Masters: 3–5 years relevant experience; Bachelors: 5–7 years relevant experience, including at least 3 years managing donor-funded projects.
- Experience coordinating with government, private sector, NGOs, and community stakeholders.
- Knowledge of MEAL, humanitarian standards, and protection principles.
- Fluency in English, Amharic, and Afan Oromo.
Technical Skills:
- Strong computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Solid project planning, implementation, coordination, and financial management skills.
- Proposal development, donor reporting, and GIS/tourism mapping experience.
- Knowledge of sustainable tourism, cultural heritage protection, and value-chain development.
