position context
The Protection Unit works closely with the Government of Ethiopia and key stakeholders to reduce protection risks and address the needs of vulnerable migrants, displaced persons, and affected communities. Within the Migrant Protection and Assistance non-emergencies portfolio, programming areas include counter-trafficking, assistance to vulnerable migrants, migration response centres, and community outreach. Under the overall supervision of the Programme Officer (Protection Emergencies) and direct supervision of the National Officer (Protection), the Project Associate supports implementation of protection non-emergency activities and provides coordination support across protection teams.
key responsibilities
Assist in implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities
Compile, analyse, and present project-related data and information
Monitor budgets, track expenditures, and verify availability of funds
Support administrative coordination and liaison with internal units and external partners
Draft reports, correspondence, briefing notes, presentations, and statistical tables
Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions
Coordinate with government authorities, UN agencies, NGOs, donors, and partners
Support monitoring of implementing partners and report non-compliance
Provide guidance and on-the-job support to junior staff
Perform other duties as assigned
required qualifications
School diploma with five years of relevant experience, or bachelor’s degree in political science, social sciences, international relations, development studies, migration studies, human rights, law, or related fields with three years of relevant professional experience from an accredited institution.

Experience working with migrants, refugees, IDPs, victims of trafficking, or vulnerable groups
Experience coordinating with government institutions, UN agencies, and NGOs
Knowledge of migration protection, counter-trafficking, community outreach, and AVM
Strong interpersonal, coordination, and reporting skills
Ability to deliver capacity building and work effectively in multicultural teams
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
languages
Fluency in English is required
Working knowledge of Amharic is desirable
