Project Mission

Project Objectives
The project seeks to actively engage the private sector alongside government institutions, integrate regional value chains, improve trade and transport connectivity with a focus on women’s participation, support authorities implementing AfCFTA, strengthen academic and research institutions, and enhance Ethiopia’s capacity to implement the AfCFTA Digital Trade Protocol.
Role Summary
The Deputy Team Leader supports the Team Leader in operational management and day-to-day implementation of project activities, while also taking the lead on donor and headquarters reporting and coordination of monitoring and evaluation processes.
Operational Support Responsibilities
The role includes assisting in planning and supervising project activities, organizing technical trainings and public-private dialogues, monitoring procurement and resource use, and ensuring smooth internal coordination within the project team.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting Responsibilities
The incumbent leads preparation and submission of technical, financial, and administrative reports to headquarters and donors, supervises monitoring and evaluation activities, and ensures data quality and timely reporting.
Financial, Administrative, and Logistical Support
Responsibilities include supporting financial and administrative processes, guiding contracting and procurement activities, promoting the use of internal project management tools, and ensuring proper documentation and archiving.
Coordination with Team Leader
The Deputy Team Leader maintains close coordination with the Team Leader, ensuring clear division of responsibilities, effective communication, and regular updates on project progress and challenges.
Required Education
A master’s degree in economics, finance, international relations, international trade, or a related field is required for this position.
Professional Experience Requirements
Candidates must have at least three years of experience in project management or coordination and at least three years of experience in trade and AfCFTA-related work, including experience with donor-funded projects.
Additional Experience
Experience working with government institutions, intergovernmental organizations, or the private sector on international trade issues is required, while experience in Eastern Africa and with Expertise France is an advantage.
Skills and Competencies
Strong project management, communication, teamwork, writing, planning, budgeting, and reporting skills are required, along with adaptability, resilience, autonomy, and cultural sensitivity.
Language Requirements
Excellent proficiency in written and spoken English is required, and knowledge of Amharic is considered an asset.
Contract Duration
The contract is a fixed-term one-year agreement with the possibility of renewal based on performance and project needs.
