About the Role
Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC is seeking a finance expert to join as Manager – Accounts Payable (AP). You will lead the AP team, implement robust processes, maintain internal controls, and ensure accurate financial reporting. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
Job Responsibilities
Ensure accuracy and completeness of accounts payable transactions, reconcile supplier accounts, and process payments in line with company policies and International Accounting Standards. Prepare and share payment projections with the treasury team to support cashflow planning. Ensure timely supplier payments, approval of invoices, and accurate employee expense claim management. Engage with partners to resolve issues within defined SLAs, validate invoices, and confirm receipt of goods and services before payment. Reconcile supplier statements, maintain complete documentation, prevent double payments, and ensure all relevant approvals are in place. Lead month-end closing and reporting, train and supervise AP team members, implement process improvements, and prepare financial data to support business operations. Ensure integrity of processes and compliance with accounting policies and regulations.
Core Competencies and Knowledge
Strong knowledge of international financial reporting standards (IFRS). Excellent numeric and analytical skills. Understanding of local tax regulations. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills. Ability to identify risks and capture accounting implications. Hands-on experience with accounting systems such as Oracle, Hyperion, SAP, Sage, or SUN. Proficiency in data analytics and visualization tools. Ability to deliver timely and accurate reports and manage tax compliance effectively.
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional accounting qualification such as CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or ACA is an added advantage. Minimum 5 years post-qualification experience in finance with specialization in financial accounting. Experience in internal and external audits. Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
