About the Region
The UNOPS Africa Regional Office in Nairobi oversees more than 250 projects across 40 countries in fragile and conflict-affected settings. With over 1,000 personnel across five multi-country offices, the region supports national priorities in Climate Action, Health, Infrastructure, Peace and Security, and Middle-Income Country Support, strengthening project delivery and sustainable development across Africa.
About the Country / Multi-Country Office
HAMCO, based in Addis Ababa, operates across Djibouti, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Sudan, delivering project management, procurement and infrastructure services. Its work focuses on health, agriculture, education, energy and livelihoods, especially in underserved areas. The office supports government partners, strengthens systems and contributes to the SDGs through impactful development initiatives.
Job Context
The role supports data collection activities across Ethiopia and requires field travel. It ensures accurate, timely and reliable data for project monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Role Purpose
Assist in collecting, recording, cleaning and aggregating data to support project reporting and analysis. Work under the supervision of an M&E Specialist and contribute to assessments, fieldwork and documentation.
Data Collection, Recording and Reporting
Participate in training on assessment tools and data quality standards.
Support tool preparation, testing and finalization.
Follow ethical and confidentiality standards in data collection.
Travel to field sites including facilities, schools, project locations and communities.
Conduct interviews, FGDs, KIIs and observations using approved tools.
Record responses accurately in digital or paper formats.
Capture photos, videos or audio when required.
Transcribe qualitative data promptly.
Document processes, challenges and observations.
Summarize and report findings as needed.
Conduct site-level infrastructure and service observations.
Data Quality Assurance and Reporting
Identify challenges in data collection and report promptly.
Participate in team debriefings and maintain confidentiality.
Supervise data collectors when assigned.
Follow safety and fieldwork protocols.
Perform data cleaning and verification.
Ensure timely submission of complete and validated data.
Deliverables
Quality-assured and complete data submissions for assigned sites.
Reports on data collection activities, challenges and lessons learned.
Consistent communication with supervisors on progress.

Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, Education, Agriculture, Engineering or related fields.
Experience Requirements
Required:
Two years of experience in data collection, field research or related work.
Desired:
Experience in multicultural or UN environments.
Experience in development or humanitarian projects.
Use of mobile data tools (Kobo, ODK).
Sector experience in Health, Education, Agriculture, WASH, Infrastructure, Energy or Social Development.
