Job Summary
The Outbreak Response Laboratory Technician provides accurate laboratory testing to support diagnosis, treatment, and surveillance of Marburg Viral Disease (MVD). The role ensures reliable test results, maintains laboratory safety, and supports outbreak response activities.
Responsibilities
Collect, label, and process specimens following proper procedures. Perform routine laboratory tests including haematology, urinalysis, serology, parasitology, and RDTs. Record, analyse, and report test results promptly. Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure regular servicing. Monitor and manage laboratory supplies and reagents. Prepare and follow up specimens sent to external labs. Adhere to IPC and biosafety standards at all times. Ensure sterilization, hygiene, waste management, and universal precautions. Participate in internal and external quality assurance activities. Support surveillance and outbreak response operations. Contribute to accountability and safeguarding practices. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education
Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology and valid practicing license required. BSc in Medical Laboratory Technology preferred.
Experience
Minimum 2 years of clinical laboratory experience. Experience in outbreak response is an advantage. INGO experience is an added advantage.
Skills
Strong laboratory testing skills. Knowledge of standard equipment and IPC protocols. Good communication and computer skills. Attention to detail and confidentiality.
Location
Field-based in Jinka with travel to health facilities.
