The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Research and MEAL Manager to lead research, monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning for the Indigo Backpacks project. The role ensures strong research design, high-quality data systems, and coordinated MEAL implementation across partners, government structures, and IRC teams. The position supports research protocols, supervises MEAL processes, strengthens data quality, and drives learning to improve immunization delivery and health system performance.
The manager will guide development and validation of research tools, oversee MEAL plans and data workflows, ensure accuracy in data collection and reporting, and collaborate closely with the Ethiopia MEAL Coordinator, Gavi REACH teams, and global research units. Responsibilities include facilitating work with consultants, coordinating field research, leading stakeholder consultations, managing dashboards and digital tools, ensuring ethical compliance, and translating research findings into briefs, reports, and presentations. The role also oversees the local Research and MEAL team, manages field logistics, conducts data quality checks, and supports accountability systems.
Education Requirements
MPH or Master’s degree in Monitoring and Evaluation, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Social Sciences, or a related field.
Experience Requirements
Minimum 4 years managing field research or MEAL projects in public health or health systems. Strong skills in study design, data analysis, research supervision, and donor-funded project management are required. Experience with participatory research, stakeholder engagement, and capacity building is essential. Proficiency in SPSS, STATA, R or NVivo; digital data collection tools (Kobo, CommCare); and data visualization platforms such as Power BI is required.
Skills and Competencies
Strong qualitative and quantitative research skills, excellent writing and communication abilities, team leadership, problem-solving, and the ability to manage complex workloads. High proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to adapt research tools to local contexts and ensure ethical, high-quality fieldwork.
Languages
Fluency in English and Amharic with strong written and verbal communication.
