Team Leader – Democratic Governance & Peace Building

UNDP Ethiopia is recruiting a Team Leader to lead its Democratic Governance & Peacebuilding portfolio. The role supports national reforms in governance, peacebuilding, institutional strengthening, human rights, and conflict prevention, aligned with Ethiopia’s 10-Year Development Plan and UNDP’s 2025–2030 Country Programme. The position provides strategic direction, technical leadership, and strong coordination with government, civil society, donors, and UN agencies.
Responsibilities
Lead governance and peacebuilding programmes from design to evaluation.
Provide policy analysis and technical advisory support to national institutions.
Identify capacity gaps and ensure effective, results-based programme delivery.
Coordinate with government, civil society, and development partners.
Support resource mobilization and prepare donor briefs and funding proposals.
Promote knowledge sharing, communication, and visibility of programme results.
Supervise staff, consultants, and procurement processes in line with UNDP standards.
Required Experience
Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience with a master’s degree, or 9 years with a bachelor’s degree.
Experience in democratic governance, peacebuilding, institutional reform, or public sector development.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex programmes, and ensure high-quality results.
Strong experience providing advisory support to government and development partners.
Demonstrated ability to work in politically sensitive contexts and maintain stakeholder trust.
Experience engaging with high-level officials, civil society, and donor partners.
Education
Master’s degree in Governance Studies, Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Peace and Security, Development Studies, or related field.
Bachelor’s degree in the above fields with additional experience is acceptable.
Additional Skills
Strong knowledge of Ethiopia’s governance and political context.
Proven skills in resource mobilization, donor coordination, and partnership building.
Experience integrating gender, youth, and inclusion in governance programmes.
Excellent analytical, report-writing, and communication abilities.
Experience with UNDP or UN systems is an added advantage.
Languages
Excellent English is required.
Knowledge of the local language of the duty station is desirable.
